Fair result - Harry

Harry Redknapp felt a point each was a fair outcome after Thursday night’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

The momentum of a typically-intense derby changed throughout at the Lane.

We started brightly and deservedly took the lead when Emmanuel Adebayor slid home Gareth Bale’s cross in the seventh minute.

Daniel Sturridge levelled midway through the first half and Chelsea had the better of the start of the second half, Brad Friedel denying Ramires one-on-one.

We then stepped up again with three quickfire chances, Ramires headed wide from point-blank range and then, in the final seconds of added time, Ade beat Cech only for John Terry to clear off the line.

“We started superbly and were on top for the first 25 minutes, got the goal and we were great early on,” reflected Harry, who reported that Rafa van der Vaart was forced off with a hamstring problem at half-time.

“They equalised, came back and looked stronger.

“In the second half we had a problem. Rafa had a hamstring problem again and we had to change the system.

“It was difficult. Luka played on the right, Pav came on and we went with two strikers. I thought ‘we’re at home, let’s have a go’ but they then had control of the middle of the park because they had an extra man in there.

“There were chances at both ends. Ramires had a free header for them, Adebayor could have scored at the end but somehow it didn’t go in. A draw was a fair result.”

However, Harry revealed that as well as Rafa, Younes Kaboul and Ledley King also suffered hamstring problems against Chelsea.
