Kolkata set to host to Pele, Cafu, Ronaldo


After the Argentina-Venezuela FIFA friendly last year, yet another flashy match awaits soccer fans in Kolkata when two-times World Cup winner Brazilian soccer legend Cafu leads an team, starring the likes of Pele, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho, against one led by India's Baichung Bhutia later this month.

Team ‘India Dream Team’ will be led by Indian football superstar Bhaichung Bhutia while team ‘Superstar XI’ will be led by Cafu, organisers of the match announced at a news conference here on Friday.

Bhutia, along with Sunil Hamal, CEO, JPR Events, Jahan Mehta, General Secretary, Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI), and Sunil Mukherjee, FPAI, Team Manager, was among those present at the announcement on Friday.


Bhutia said, “There will be auction of players from different part of India and the fund will be given to ex-footballers to support them whenever they face financial crisis.”

The superstars XI team will have Brazilian soccer legend Pele, Brazilian football icons Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, Legendry Italian defender Paolo Maldini, Stricker Roberto Baggio, Brazilian Cafu and coach Ruud Gullitt.

'India Dream Team’ will consist of Bhaichung Bhutia, Renady Singh, some current footballers, some international players, some Bollywood stars and coach Shyam Thapa.

“It will be a friendly match of good quality and entertainment. It’s a match where we can say that we have beaten the best players of the world,” Bhaichung said with a smile.

The football match will be held at Salt Lake Stadium on Jan 23.

Tickets have been priced at Rs 300 and Rs 500 and will be available at Aqua Java outlets, Inox, South City Mall, Salt Lake stadium and Sriniketan.
