Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder could be Sir Alex Ferguson's number one target during the summer transfer window.
Reports emanating from England claim the Dutchman is right up there on Manchester United's priority list.
According to the Daily Mail, Ferguson has identified the growing unrest at Inter as the perfect opportunity to prise Sneijder away from the Italian giants.
Inter's season has threatened to unravel in recent weeks, with their faltering bid for the Serie A title matching their UEFA Champions League exit in terms of disappointment.
Ferguson has made no secret of his desire to find a capable replacement for veteran playmakers Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, with the latter strongly tipped to retire at the end of this season.
Sneijder has the ability and the necessary credentials to take over as United's midfield general, having learned his trade at Ajax's famed youth academy, before learning from the best at Real Madrid and now, Inter.
The Daily Mail further reveals that a £25million bid is about to be put forth to Inter, and that president Massimo Moratti is ready to listen to offers despite Sneijder having only recently signed a new deal that ties him to the club till 2015.
The interest in Sneijder also means that Ferguson is backing off in his pursuit of Tottenham's Luka Modric, which may now open the door for Chelsea, who have made no secret of their plans to rebuild their ageing squad this summer.
A summer of hectic activity is expected at United, with a new goalkeeper also being high on Ferguson's agenda, while underperforming squad players like Anderson and Michael Carrick and the out-of-favour Dimitar Berbatov could all find themselves on the way out of Old Trafford.
